This week I completed my recommendations portion of the written report. I chose to write up recommendations for the California Sierra Club to support EO B-29-15, mandatory water restrictions. The reason I chose them is that I fully support there cause but feel there are some actions and dialogue they should take in order to earn more support from Californians.
The Sierra Club is in a struggle with the Agricultural Sector and Southern California residents for water, namely water from the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. The club lobbies for less water to be diverted through the Cross Channel Gates in order to protect the Delta smelt and migrating salmon. By diverting less water they maintain proper salinity in the Delta and allow for enough water flow to let salmon migrate.
My recommendations included supporting alternative water development and greater water efficiency throughout the state in order to relieve the pressure to divert more water through the gates. I found that the Sierra Club should reach out to many stakeholders, including non-traditional allies in order to serve there cause.
This week I move on to the video. Wish me luck. I am a bit worried about it as I am not much of videographer or editor. I hope I can do my project justice in the video.
